ELEMENTS OF COHASSET HISTORY- History of Shipbuilding Cohasset and on the South Shore with Bob Jackman. Tuesdays, February 7-March 14, 1:00-2:30 pm. This course will examine local shipbuilding from 1640-1870. The process of building ships will be presented from standing timber to a completed vessel passing Whitehead and entering the Atlantic Ocean. Using maps, period images, and modern photographs the locations of the shipyards will be identified. The routine of shipbuilders will be presented along with glimpses of the lives of some craftsmen and the bust and boom nature of the industry will also be examined.
