Tasks

  • Enforce Chapter V of the State Sanitary Code: Minimum Standards for Swimming Pools;
  • Issue annual permits for all swimming pools (public and semi-public);
  • Routinely inspect all swimming pools (public and semi-public);
  • Issuing orders, holding hearings, granting variances, and taking water samples as needed;
  • Enforce Chapter VII of the State Sanitary Code: Minimum Standard for Bathing Beaches;
  • Conduct weekly water quality testing at all public and semi public bathing beaches;
  • Monitory test results following weekly water quality testing at all public and semi public bathing beaches;
  • Notify Massachusetts Department of Public Health of any exceedances from state standards at any bathing beaches in the Town of Cohasset;
  • Close any beach whose bacterial count exceeds maximum state thresholds (prohibit swimming);
  • Reviewing plans for new and/or altered bathing beaches.
