We provide leadership to help develop plans for effective response to all hazards, disasters, or threats. CEMA provides training for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT); provides information to Cohasset citizens; and assists individuals, families, businesses, and the community as a whole to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies both natural and man made.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

The CERT is made up of volunteers who have been trained to safely assist their families and neighbors in the event of a disaster. Cohasset CERT will work under the direction of local professional emergency respondents, providing immediate assistance to victims.

CERT teams are known and trusted resources to emergency respondents and their communities. During an incident, emergency service personnel may not be able to reach everyone immediately. That's when CERT members come into play and help our citizens with emergency medical first aid and other life sustaining needs. CERT members will be trained in the following areas:
  • Emergency medical first aid
  • Evacuation from damaged structures
  • Light search and rescue
  • Identifying and isolating hazards
  • Providing damage assessment to town authorities
  • Directing traffic and helping with shelter operations
