Elder Affairs Upcoming Activities

 

The Cohasset Elder Affairs offers quality programs and activities on a regular basis that are sure to bring enjoyment to everyone involved.  Below are a list of some of the regular activities offered by the CEA. 


 

 

  • Serving Health Insurance Needs for Elders (SHINE):

    • Lynne Buckley, our SHINE counselor, will be available monthly to address health insurance questions or concerns for seniors or disabled adults.  Lynne's next visit is scheduled for June 20th from 8:00am - 10:45am at CEA.  Please call to make an appointment.

 

 

  • Telephone Reassurance:

    • If you would like a check-in phone call from our office on weekday mornings, please call the CEA office at (781) 383-9112

 
 
  • Cohasset Café:

    • Join us for fresh baked breakfast treats, coffee, conversation, and stunning views of Cohasset Harbor on Mondays from 9:00am - 11:00am, April-June and September-November, at the Lightkeepers' House on Government Island - all are welcome. 

 

 

  • Brown Bag Lunch and a Movie:

    • On one Monday per month at 12:00pm, bring you own lunch and Cohasset Elder Affairs will provide soft drinks and popcorn.  The next movie date is June 9th, 2014.  The Movie for June will be Philomena starring Judy Dench and Steve Coogan - Floundering BBC journalist Martin Sixsmith (Coogan) and aging Irishwoman Philomena Lee (Dench) form an unlikely bond when they pair up to find the son that Philomena was forced to give up for adoption 50 years ago. 
 

 

 

  • Tai Chi:

    • Offered Monday and Friday at 8:00am on the Cohasset Common behind the First Parish Church.  In inclement weather, class will meet at Bates Hall at the Second Congregational Church.  Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art that is practiced for health benefits leading to longevity.
 

 
  • American Contact Bridge League (ACBL):

    • Games for skilled players are held on Monday at 11:00am in Bates Hall in the Second Congregational Church.
 

 
  • Congregate Meals:

    • Delicious lunches provided by volunteer chefs and local restaurants are provided on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at noon at the Cohasset Elder Affairs.  A $3.00 donation is suggested and appreciated.
 

 
  • Line Dancing:

    • Offered Tuesdays from 1:30pm - 2:30pm.  Beginner to beginner plus.  Dancing is proven to help your posture and balance, while improving your memory skills and confidence.  Easy Waltz, Cha Cha, Salsa, Samba, Mambo, and other dance steps to country, pop, and Latin music while having fun exercising.  Drop-ins are welcome.

 

 

  • Sit to Get Fit:

    • Offered Thursdays from 10:00am - 11:00am.  This program is geared to improve upper and lower body strength, flexibility, and coordination from the comfort of your chair.

 

 

  • Weekly Seminars:

    •  Wednesday and/or Thursday at 11:00am before lunch with various presenters - please call CEA for more information

 

 

  • Shopping:

    • Shaws - Tuesday, 1:00pm
    • Around Town - Monday, 1:00pm for Route 3A shops.  Thursday, 9:30am for Downtown shops
    • Stop & Shop - Friday, 9:30am

  • Health Clinics:

    • Offered by Mary Goodwin the Cohasset Public Health Nurse, on the second Tuesday of the month at 11:30am.
 

 
  • Second Friday Book Club:

    • 10:30am - 12:30pm.  Book discussion, coffee, and refreshments.  Lead by Addie McGrath and Sandra Murray.
 

 
  • Knitting:

    • Drop in knitting.  Learners are welcome.  Takes place on Fridays from 1:00pm - 3:00pm and lead by Edna Finegan.  $3.00 charge.
 

 
  • Therapeutic Massage:

    • Stephanie Grenadier from Energy Matters Holistic Massage in Hingham joins us to offer 15 minute neck, shoulder, arm, hand, or foot messages (your choice).  Massages are offered at a reduced price of $8.00 for a 15 minute session.
 

 
  • Legal Consultation:

    • Complimentary 30 minute meeting with Leanna Hamill, Elder Law Attorney.  Call (781) 383-9112 to make an appointment.
 

 
  • Veteran Service Officer:

    • Vincent Fountaine will be at the CEA office on Tuesdays from 3:00pm - 5:30pm.  Please visit the Veteran Service page for more information.

 

  • Outreach Off-Site Visits:

    • Nancy Lafauce, Assistant Director of CEA will be present in the Community Room at 60 Elm Street on the second Tuesday of every month from 10:00am - 11:00am.

 
 
  • Home Maintenance:

    • Larry Hansen, home maintenance volunteer, will perform small jobs (30 minutes).  Call the CEA office for more information.
