Description and Mission of the Elder Affairs Department:

The Mission of the Cohasset Elder Affairs is to offer outstanding programs and services that provide for the physical, social, and emotional needs of our older adults by assisting them to lead independent, stimulating, and self-reliant lives as members of the community.  The primary goals of the Cohasset Elder Affairs Department are as follows:

  • Provide education for older adults and families on critical current senior issues
  • Provide outreach services for seniors unable to access the senior center
  • Provide programs that promote healthy life style choices while stimulating the mind and increasing happiness and laughter
  • Foster intergenerational programs that will enrich the lives of older adults, families, and children

  Outreach Program:

The Cohasset Outreach program (free service) is a personal link to citizens who are sixty (60) years or older and the many benefits that are available in the community.  Nancy Lafauce, whom is our Outreach Coordinator, is available for confidential office and/or home visits and provide advocacy and referral services to elders and their caregivers.  She is a caring link to the community for those who need relief from isolation, or need assistance with forms and insurances.  Some of the benefit programs we assist with are:

  • Fuel assistance
  • SNAP (formerly food stamps)
  • Prescription advantage
  • Handicap placards
  • Health safety net
  • MASS Health
  • Cohasset Housing Applications

The outreach worker is very knowledgeable about community resources and makes referrals to South Shore Elder Services for home care services and Meals on Wheels.  We encourage and welcome any and all volunteers who are interested in visiting and helping elders on a regular basis.

For more information regarding outreach volunteers please call 781-383-9112.  More information can also be obtained by stopping by Cohasset Elder Affairs on 3 North Main Street; we always welcome your input in regards to how we can improve our services so we can make a brighter future happen today.
